  • We are Wild Mountain Forge, a small business located in Mancos, Colorado. Owner and craftsman, David Root, hand forges all of our knives one at a time, in small batches using traditional Japanese bladesmithing techniques. He learned the art and craft of Japanese bladesmithing under the seventh generation Yoshimoto bladesmith. We make a variety of sizes and styles of kitchen knives as well as daily carry knives. We strive to make all of our knives both beautiful and functional, to use and enjoy in the home and in everyday life.

We also offer a Sharpening Service at Farmers Markets, where patrons bring their own knives and tools to be hand sharpened on Japanese water stones. We have found that customers and passersby alike are quite curious and drawn to watching and learning about the art and craft of sharpening by hand. We feel our knife sharpening service is a great addition to any Farmers Market, and supports people in enjoying the process of preparing and cooking all of the local quality foods they come to the Farmers Market to buy!
